YAGI CALCULATOR by John Drew

Yagi Calculator is used by Amateur radio enthusiasts to generate data for the
construction of long yagi antennas for vhf and uhf use.

It produces yagis that meet the design criteria developed from the work of
Gunter Hoch as described in VHF Communications 3/82.

INSTALLATION
Unzip the archive into a suitable directory.
Using explorer drag a short cut of yagi.exe to the desktop (rename to "VK5DJ's Yagi Calculator"), and run the program. No installation is needed, nor does it mess up your registry.
If you don't want it anymore just delete it.
Have fun.

VERSION INFORMATION
* Version 2.0.0 first released windows version of this program.

* Version 2.0.1 various adjustments to the yagi design printout screen,
hopefully less ambiguous and includes boom drilling points rather than boom length.

* Version 2.0.2 includes a differentiation between the close box and the 'BACK' button.

* Version 2.0.3 fixes a minor bug in the save and recover data.

* Version 2.0.4 provides for elements that are insulated from a metal boom but pass through it. In addition the entry box of boom metal has been error protected. A blank box would have crashed the program. A method of choosing beam spacing has been added and helpful diagrams to clarify vertical and horizontal spacing.

* Version 2.0.5 final adjustment to stacking and update help file. Release date 20/3/03
* Version 2.0.6 minor fix in "save YO file" screen (now defaults to current directory and has option to see *.yag or *.*), some more info in the help file especially about the construction and feed of dipoles. Adjusted defaults to press the point that the design is for long yagis.
Version 2.0.7 has introduced a capacity to calculate the resonant frequency of a measured beam. It assumes some features of the DL6WU design but would give at least a realistic indication of frequency for all yagis. It also has the capacity to convert a beam from one kind of construction to another (e.g. insulated elements style to through boom elements). Yagi Calculator can now read in .YAG files created by YO. There is an ability to convert beams of differing construction to and from insulated construction and use YO to optimise a through boom design by utilising it in insulated form, then bring it back in and reconvert. (long winded but I hope you get the idea.)
Version 2.0.8 minor changes include a dBi indication in the design yagi output. Alternative gain algorithms are offered in the gain page. Some mods to the help file.
Version 2.0.9 add facility to calculate the length of a 4:1 balun using choice of coax or user input of velocity factor. Further updates to help file. A gif picture of a 4:1 coax balun has been added to the zip file.
Version 2.1.0 provides for a screen that shows the construction of a 4:1 balun

Version 2.3.0 now includes SWR calculations and coax losses and has been changed to full screen operation. The program was compiled in 1024*768 (my definition of choice). It will autosize to other definitions but I notice that some of the images can look a bit scruffy under lower definition. This does not affect operation in any significant way other than affecting my pride. To avoid multiple screens active at once I have adopted a different strategy to change from feature to feature. As a result it is now only possible to change to another major function from the opening screen, but the help file is available from each of them as before.
