Broadcom has extended the reach of PCIe for use as a fabric for data center and cloud computing through its ExpressFabric initiative and platform of hardware and software. ExpressFabric can eliminate expensive bridging devices within the rack, such as adapter cards that translate native PCIe to Ethernet and back to PCIe. Yet ExpressFabric works seamlessly with other standards used within the rack and in rack-to-rack connectivity.

The industry-first ExpressFabric platform enables high performance, low latency, scalable, cost-effective fabric capabilities based on Gen3 PCI Express. The platform provides the ability to share I/O with standard SR-IOV or multifunction devices, and to enable multiple hosts to reside on a single PCIe-based network using standard PCIe enumeration – a capability not previously available on PCIe devices. The hosts communicate through Ethernet-like DMA, and do so using standard hosts, end-points, and application software.

The ExpressLane™ PEX8717 is a 16-lane, 10-port, PCIe Gen3 switch device developed using 40nm process node. PEX8717 offers PCI Express switching capability that enables users to create up to 9 downstream ports with varying widths including native x2. Today's processor south bridges offer x1 or x4 PCIe lanes, where x1 often does not provide enough bandwidth and x4's sheer size could waste valuable PCIe lanes. The introduction of a PLX native PCIe x2 interface, allows for optimal- or matching-bandwidth needed for new SATA, USB and SSD endpoints. Due to their backwards compatibility, designing with PCIe Gen3 switches in mixed (Gen1, Gen2 and Gen3) systems allows designers to future-proof their designs for full Gen3 enablement when migrating to next-generation end-points. The PEX8717 is well suited for fan-out, aggregation, and peer-to-peer traffic patterns. Included is PLX's proprietary visionPAK™ debug software, which allows, for example, internal receive-eye observation after equalization and access to the devices' internal debug registers thus enabling faster time to market.

Due to their backwards compatibility, designing with PCIe Gen3 switches in mixed (Gen1, Gen2 and Gen3) systems allows designers to future-proof their designs for full Gen3 enablement when migrating to next-generation end-points. The PEX8796 is well suited for fan-out, aggregation, and peer-to-peer traffic patterns. Included is PLX's proprietary visionPAK debug software, which allows, for example, internal receive-eye observation after equalization and access to the devices' internal debug registers thus enabling faster time to market.
Broadcom's BCM7354 is a single-chip, multiformat, high-definition satellite Set-top-Box (STB) solution that enables service providers to deploy multiroom DVR while reducing cost and power requirements.

Broadcom’s BCM7354 is a single-chip, multiformat HD satellite STB solution featuring integrated Ethernet MII and physical layer capabilities for connectivity with Broadcom Wi-Fi and powerline solutions that enable service providers to deploy multiroom DVR while reducing cost and power requirements. The BCM7354 allows multiple users to store, time shift or access content from media servers or residential gateways for playback on STBs anywhere in the home, driving the transition to a more connected and interactive home network environment that also reduces the power, complexity and overall cost for the solution provider.

The BCM5871X is a series of quad-core 64-bit 2GHz ARM® v8 Cortex®-A57 communication processors targeting a broad range of networking applications including virtual CPE (vCPE) and NFV appliances, 10G service routers and gateways, control plane processing for Ethernet switches, and network attached storage (NAS). The BCM5871x combines advanced computing, networking and virtualization functions on a single SoC with the industry’s first quad-core A57 CPU delivering 34,000 DMIPS below 10 watts, providing unprecedented levels of integration and setting a new bar on performance and power efficiency.

The BCM5871x integrates Broadcom’s server class network interface controller with virtualization, stateless offloads, and packet processing capabilities. As result, the BCM5871X networking interfaces can be shared across various VMs, increasing productivity and bandwidth efficiency. Moreover, Broadcom’s TruFlow™ packet flow processing technology enables Open vSwitch acceleration through CPU offload helping to scale and increase VNF density, in addition to offering flexible Software-Defined Networking (SDN) provisioning and policy controls.

The BCM5871x SoCs are supported by Yocto-compliant Linux Development Kit (LDK) and pre-integrated Switch Development Kit (SDK) and WiFi drivers. The BCM5871x software includes support for open source projects and development models (KVM, OpenStack, Open vSwitch, OpenDaylight, DPDK, and ODP™).
A high-definition IP Set-top-Box (STB) solution enabling advanced Internet protocol digital entertainment services in a low-cost, high-performance and compact package.

Complementing Broadcom's family of DVR-enabled media server solutions, the BCM7231 allows solution providers to cost-effectively expand IPTV services, such as networked DVR and IP video services, for both client-server and low-cost standalone deployment models.
